Halitosis: Unmasked

What would you feel if someone asked you about what you have eaten? Would you speculate on what your breath smells like? Would you directly ask that person why? What if he told you that he knew what you just had eaten? Would your anxiety skyrocket? Okay, so much for those probing questions. But honestly, are there times that you’re bothered that your breath may not smell as pleasant as you think? Honestly it’s not really paranoia that you’re experiencing but the inner voice that warns you of the possible shame.

Halitosis is not just a disease. It is a curse. Don’t laugh, it really is. For sure, the counter spell for it isn’t discovered yet. Never has it been mentioned in Harry Potter series considering the fact that Hermione’s parents are both dentists. This condition is horrifying enough that it will definitely make one avoid social situations because of the fear that others might notice such an unpleasant surprise. Oops! Don’t tell me you’re already bothered. This is just the beginning.

Halitosis is much more of a sign rather than a disease itself. It signifies something that’s more bothering. To address this condition the first thing to do is to undergo assessment. This can actually be done by a nurse or a dentist. In this way the cause of the problem can be identified. There are actually lots of etiologic factors for this.

Consuming certain spices:

Eating garlic, onions and some spices can be a bane. Garlic in particular when eaten can produce sulfur containing gases according to research. The bad odor isn’t likely to come from the mouth but rather from the intestines. Limiting the consumption of foods with lots of garlic and other spices will be of great help.

Poor oral hygiene:

It is necessary that for one to avoid bad breath, brushing the teeth religiously is a must. Others use mouthwashes to make sure that surfaces that are hard to reach will be included. Flossing is also important because it cleans areas between the teeth. Good oral hygiene doesn’t only get rid of halitosis; it also liberates the mouth from other oral problems such as periodontal diseases.

Smoking:

Smoking will not make one cool or hot for this will surely make one’s mouth smell at its worst. Nicotine and tar build up in the mouth thus causing an awful breath to anyone who smokes. Not just that it can also cause a lot of diseases that are way unimaginable. One big problem here is the moment someone starts to smoke the idea of quitting becomes hard due to cigarettes’ addictive properties.

Gastrointestinal Problem

The fourth is having a gastrointestinal problem. This one’s actually more terrifying. One has to treat the underlying condition first to resolve the problem of bad breath. The treatment may take a long time depending on the severity of the disease. Well it’s better to wait than not doing anything at all.

Those are just few of the factors that might cause bad breath. If you want to dig more on the other possible causes, Google might help you on this. If you don’t have the problem yet, avoiding causative agents is the first step to take.

Hidden Luna

Fiery yet charming
The time the light was stolen
What you did was blush

Luna

Magnificent glow
Mystical in its essence
Stealing our breath

Flowing life

The flowing water
Gives the music so quenching
Like it always does
